The third season of Netflix’s On My Block was released on March 11, 2020, and was an instant hit. The series was immediately a part of Netflix’s top ten following the release of season 3, so there is no doubt that the show has many fans. With those numbers, it seems obvious that the show should be renewed for a fourth season. And the creators of the show are just as eager for another season as the audience. Lauren Iungerich, the co-creator of On My Block, has a multi-year contract with Netflix, which indicates that the series won’t be coming to a close anytime soon. Iungerich and the two other creators, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft have all expressed a desire to keep the show going as long as Netflix will allow.
The numbers are looking good. The fans want more. And the creators want more, too. The evidence all points to a fourth season.
But when will season 4 be released? What will the storyline be? Well, we don’t know a lot so far. As stated before, Netflix has yet to issue any official statements about the future of On My Block. But, here’s what we can guess based on what we do know.
On My Block season 4: Release date
Season 1 was released on March 16, 2018. Season 2 was released on March 29, 2019. And season 3 was released on March 11, 2020.
If this pattern continues, we can estimate that season 4 will be released in March of 2021. However, considering the circumstances of this year, that could potentially change due to delays and other complications. Still, the likely answer for a release date is sometime in March of next year, if all goes well.
Who will the cast be for On My Block Season 4?
As there have been no official announcements regarding the new season, we cannot be sure if there will be any new cast members. Though, based on season 3, we can expect that all of the main cast will be returning for season 4: Sierra Capri, Brett Gray, Jessica Marie Garcia, Diego Tinoco, Julio Macias, and Jason Genao. This cast, as well as the cast of minor recurring characters, are likely to make a comeback.
What will the plot be?
Based on the series of events that took place in season 3, we can assume that season 4 will be further exploring those plotlines and answering some questions. There was a two year time skip in the season finale, revealing that the main group of friends had mostly split apart and gone their separate ways. Jamal had started playing football once again, Monse was at boarding school, Ruby and Jasmine’s relationship is the center of the pair’s lives, and Ruby and Jamal don’t seem to be speaking to each other anymore. Spooky has left his gang life behind to keep his focus on his pregnant girlfriend/wife. And Cesar appears to be the new leader of the Santos gang.
Season 4 will likely explore some questions left behind in the finale. What truly split apart the friend group? Why are Ruby and Jamal not speaking? What will happen to Cesar?
So, we don’t know much yet…
A lot of the information on season 4 consists of guesses based on past seasons and plotlines, as well as what the creators and cast of the show have stated regarding what they hope for the series. Hopefully, we will receive definitive answers from Netflix sooner than later on if and when we can expect another season.
